What Is a Digital Car Emblem? The Tech Behind Animated Badges

A digital car emblem replaces your factory badge with a high-resolution circular screen that plays animations, GIFs and images in real time. Not backlighting. Not an LED ring. The entire badge face is a display.
01 The hardware stack
A digital emblem like HALO is three layers: a CNC metal bezel that seats into the factory badge recess, a sealed circular display — 1000+ nits, auto-dimming, 60fps — and a Wi-Fi controller that talks to your phone.
| Spec | HALO |
|---|---|
| Brightness | 1000+ nits, auto-dim day/night |
| Refresh | 60fps real-time |
| Sealing | IP69 — fully waterproof |
| Depth | Under 15mm flush |
| Fitment | 74mm + 82mm BMW rear badges, one unit |
02 Control: no app, just a browser
HALO connects to a web control panel over Wi-Fi — nothing to install. Three modes: videos/GIFs, static image, and brightness. Upload your own content or run the pre-loaded library, switched from your phone in a tap.
03 Power and install
Power comes from the trunk 12V socket or a direct fuse-box wire, routed through the two factory badge pin holes — no drilling on almost all models, installed in under 30 minutes. Full walkthrough: badge removal guide.
04 Weather, car washes, daily driving
Sealed to IP69, a proper digital emblem shrugs off pressure washes, rain and winter. Auto-dimming keeps it visible at noon and civil at midnight.
05 Is it legal?
Rules vary by region. Most jurisdictions regulate lights that flash, imitate emergency vehicles, or face forward. A rear badge playing static or slow content is generally treated like a bumper display — but check local regulations, and keep it classy at night.
HALO fits both 74mm and 82mm BMW rear badges — one unit, nothing to measure. A real-time animated screen where your roundel used to be.

Does it drain my battery?
HALO draws from the 12V accessory circuit, which powers down with the car on almost all models — no overnight drain.
Can I show anything I want?
Yes — videos, GIFs, images, your own uploads. What you display is on you; keep it road-appropriate.
What cars does it fit?
Both BMW rear roundel sizes — 74mm and 82mm — covering 1–8 Series and X Series across E/F/G platforms. See the full fitment chart.
